Maintaining your wooden cutting boards and charcuterie boards is very important as this quick and easy task will keep your boards looking new as well as extend their life and most importantly, help keep your board sanitary.
DO NOT
Use alcohol or household cleaning products such as bleach on your board.
Soak your board or put it in the dishwasher, as standing water and heat may cause your board to warp or split.
Leave a wet board flat to dry, it will cause the board to warp as it would only dry on one side.
Apply vegetable, nut, or fatty oils to your board as they can cause the board to go rancid.
CLEANING
Clean the board thoroughly with warm water and soap. Wipe off the board and let the board dry in a rack overnight. When cleaning after cutting meats use mild antibacterial dish soap.
REFINISHING
To refinish the board with protective wax apply a liberal amount of the wax over the entire board, let sit for an hour then buff off any remaining wax with a lint-free cloth such as shop towels or a microfiber cloth. Boards should be refinished every month or whenever they start to look dry and lose a little bit of color.
